PvP Achievements in Wrath of the Lich King

World of Warcraft

With the recent announcement of a brand new achievement system in Warcraft come expansion time, as well as Wowhead’s full database of achievements, I figured I’d take a look and see what the system has to offer PvPers. Sifting through the other achievements, it appears that so far, in total, there’s about 43 pvp oriented accomplishments available. Some look quite easy, others will take some serious dedication to manage, and a few I can probably never hope to get. Here’s how they break down:

  • Kill Count: Many of the pvp achievements are a measure of your total kill count. From the very basic “Get an Honorable Kill,” it scales upward from there, hitting 100, 500, etc. all the way up to 100,000 honorable kills in your character’s lifetime.
  • Battleground Achievements: There’s a nice variety of available achievements that also directly relate to battlegrounds. Some of the easier ones include things like “Grim Reaper,” which is accomplished by getting 30 honorable kills in any battleground (a given in just about any Alterac Valley), or completing each daily battleground quest. Some of the more difficult achievements include getting to exalted with each battleground faction and becoming a battlemaster (accomplished by doing a number of tasks within each particular battleground). My personal favorite out of all of them is “wrecking ball,” which requires you get 20 killing blows in a single battleground without suffering a death. Given the alliance track record, I’d imagine we’ll see more horde with this achievement…
  • Capital City Combat Achievements: This has to be one of my favorite additions to the achievement system, if it does in fact help induce more of the city combat that everyone seems to love but is very hard to come by these days. You can gather achievements by killing enemies within the city limits, be they your own city or the enemy factions city. Obviously you’ll also receive a unique achievement for slaying any of the capital city leaders. Hear that, Thrall?!, I’m coming for you!
  • Duels and Arenas: Interestingly, I didn’t see any achievements based on arena rating, but I’m sure they are either in game and not listed there or in the works for launch. There are achievements in place for winning duels however, with a unique accomplishment for defeating someone of your own class in a duel (cleverly noted “duel identity”). There’s also some some notoriety to be gained by completing the Gurubashi Arena quest or obtaining the arena trinket.
  • Misc.: There’s a number of achievements that fall into their own respective niches. There’s some rather amusing ones like “Make Love, Not Warcraft,” which is accomplished by hugging dead enemies before they release (I bet you’ll see a lot of players releasing as soon as possible to stop you from getting it, too!).

I’m sure there’s more to come as the beta continues onward. Anything you’d like to see accolades for that haven’t been mentioned? I think accomplishments based on world pvp or smaller-town combat would be in order as well. Maybe that’s just because I happen to like world pvp…

    Will achievements only apply to Northrend? If not, why would someone have to start getting honorable kills again if they already have a couple grand?

    @swiecki: Good question.

    @swiecki,

    As Travis pointed out its a good question, I’m not entirely sure how achievements will apply in that regard. My guess would be that if you have X amount of honorable kills already, then you’ll start with those achievements accomplished.

    All speculation of course, but I’ll see if I can find out for sure one way or the other.
